I’ve gotten the re-decorating itch lately. All that’s on my mind whenever I go into my bedroom is the urge to paint and redecorate it. It definitely needs a facelift.
I’ve had the same color scheme and décor in my bedroom since early 2010 and even at that time, the décor wasn’t my first choice. (It was actually the color scheme my ex wanted, but that story is for another day.)
Anyhow, as I’ve been contemplating changing up the look of my bedroom, one of my main concerns was how I was going to afford the makeover. Painting and re-decorating a room can add up quickly in terms of finances, and it also takes a good chunk of time to work on the project. Both time and money are valuable and very limited resources for me these days. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you makeover your bedroom for less.
Paint
Even if you buy the expensive premium brand, paint is one the cheapest ways to make a large impact when you redecorate a room. But before you paint, you better have an idea of the style and feel you want your bedroom to have once your makeover is complete. It’s much easier to match your paint to your décor than vice-versa. Many experts also recommend you avoid certain colors in a bedroom as they might be affecting your sleep quality.
New Bedding
Getting a new comforter and pillow shams is also a great way to change the look of your bedroom without spending too much. Sometimes comforters can be pricey, so you should shop around to find the best deal. Designer discount stores often have “bed in a bag” sets that have coordinating colors and patterns that you can buy all together. This really helps take the stress out of making sure all your colors and patterns mix well together if that’s not your strong suit.
Add Accents
Adding just a few knick-knacks and a couple of pieces of wall art will finish up your bedroom makeover and tie everything together. You can find these sorts of things all over the place. Don’t fret if you don’t have those in the budget right away as you can always pick them up as you see them whenever you are out and about. Besides getting just one or two at a time can help your bedroom have memories and a unique look. But if you feel that your bedroom won’t be complete until these things are purchased, that’s okay too. Shop online and price compare lots of different sites and stores to find accent pieces that fit your style and budget. Gumtree home décor is a great place to start your search.
Giving your bedroom a makeover doesn’t have to be a big, expensive ordeal. You should keep your ideal look in mind as you shop and plan your makeover, but don’t forget to keep your budget in mind too!
