Based in Manhattan Beach, California, Western Federal is one of the leading credit unions in the country, also with branches in several states. The amount of its assets currently amount to $1.5 billion. It has 133,493 members to date. The credit union presently employs 370 people full time and 22 people part time, setting the member-employee ratio at 350 members per employee, as compared to the national average of 455.

Formally, the credit union is classified as a multiple common bond, primarily transportation equipment credit union. Western Federal Credit Union has an extensive range of services for a wide variety of financial needs. It offers multiple kinds of checking and savings accounts, money market accounts, and share certificates accounts. An extensive range of loans is also offered by the credit union: vehicle loans (auto, boat, airplane and motorcycle), personal loans (such as debt consolidation loans, advancement loan, or a personal line of credit), home loans with different kinds of terms, and student loans. It also offers credit cards for various needs.

The insurance arm of the credit union offers services in the form of auto and home insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, mechanical breakdown protection, debt protection, and guaranteed asset protection. It also offers various investment services, and transfers (automatic transfers, institution-institution transfers, cross-member transfers, and wire transfers).
